Jeff's cousin Ryan offered his skill in hanging drywall today, focusing on the bathroom. Our use of our own rough-cut lumber provided a few challenges for squaring sheets, but Ryan was able to improvise. Jillena chinked the lowest log gap from the bathroom to around the bedroom, and many other family members were busy installing outlets and switches.

Although Ryan's Rotozip made quick work of scribing against the log wall near the doorway, it didn't turn out to be as close a fit as we would have liked. So, on the opposite wall of the bathroom, Jeff used a scribing tool again, but cut the drywall the old-fashioned way - with a knife. Checking for fit, cutting areas that needed trimming, and rechecking, over and over, resulted in a very nice fit, but it took hours. Later, Paul and Jeff got the front door 3-gang switch box wired up and the two nearby ceiling fans working.

Our new friend, Mike, took the LHBA class a few weeks ago and drove up from Pennsylvania on a weekend trip to visit Fletcher's log home, then continue north to see our home and stay with Bill, another local LHBA member who has recently started his home. While here, he offered his drywalling experience and hung the upper sections in the bathroom for us, then started on the laundry room. He also assisted us with some electrical work.

We're including the stairwell handrails in this section since it only took one day to complete. This was a minor project, but the last of all the requirements for our C of O. Just a few little things to tidy up and we'll schedule an inspection. We still need a final instrument survey of the property completed, which is scheduled for next week, and house numbers out by the road.

Our C of O inspection was this past Monday, the 19th. Everything passed except one thing that slipped our minds when we set the concrete pads for the side entry steps. We didn't leave enough clearance around the boiler exhaust pipe. The pipe comes out of the foundation wall under the left side of the deck. Bob removed some of his nice framing work in that area. Then we removed a lot of rock and dirt from under the pipe. We also had to chisel off the corner of the pad. The inspector came out later and gave us the thumbs up!
