Today was a day of visual progress. We don't have too many of those, it seems. Jeff and Bob stood up all the log supports across the front of the house. They are all sitting on 1/2" rebar pins driven down into the 6x6 posts that are exposed at deck level.

Bob and Jeff have been working on the rafters. These are double 2x10's which all have to be custom-cut at the ledger end and custom-notched for the "birds mouth" on the header. This is because of the ledger board following the taper and contour of the log it's bolted into. We also got over 10 loads of dirt today from a local project.

Bob and Jeff finished laying out the raftes on the west side today, but leaving them only tacked in place. Next, the lower ends will be plumb-cut in order to install a fascia board and possible future gutters.

Hurricane Sandy has been pushing a lot of rain our way and has put a hold on much of our work for a while. But today, Jeff was out in the rain attaching the hurricane clips (of all things) to the lower ends of the rafters and the header.

Jillena and Jeff were both up on the north roof today, laying down the felt paper. Jeff's dad had some rolls of heavy paper laying around that were dried out on the ends so the paper had to be trimmed as it was unrolled. It was extra work, but worth it for the free material! They got one full roll stapled down, which was covered 2-1/2 rows.
