Here's the first log "we" set. After drying out for 5 years, lifting a 7-foot log was a "piece of cake". (Bob volunteered to lift the post while Jeff guided the base with the pre-drilled hole onto the pin.) |

For each post location, we first drilled a 1/2" hole down into the 6x6, making sure it was a plumb as possible. |
Each hole is about 8" deep. |

For those 6x6 posts that didn't quite poke up past the deck surface, we cut square pressure-treated shims so the log supports would not sit directly on the decking. |

We then selected the log sections we wanted along the front of the house and set them on the deck at each pin location. |

Before lifting the log support onto the pin, Jeff and Stephen brushed a waterproof stain onto the bottom end grain. |
