Jillena spent some time in the basement working on the doors again while Jeff was outside installing the soffit paneling on the west slope of the north gable.

Jillena spent another day sanding and staining the door panels. She's almost done! While the stain was drying, she went upstairs to work on the log wall insulation. Meanwhile, Jeff was outside installing corbels under the last window that needed a little extra support.

Finally, after many long hours of sripping, sanding, and staining, we got started on the actual installation of the front door. The first thing we needed to do was remove both side bucks and run electric flex conduit in a channel up the back side. These will feed the two outside entry lights on either side of the door.

Bob's expertise was much appreciated today as he helped Jeff hang the front entry door. It took all day to set the frame and get the two sections of our dutch door aligned properly.

Bob and Jeff installed the other entry door today, along with running flex conduit behind one buck which will be for the outside light.

It was back to the side door for Jeff's project tonight. He shimmed the hinges of the top door section to get it to close properly. After that, he cut a notch in one of the interior trim strips for the front door latch.

Jeff custom cut a trim piece to cover the bolt holes in the left buck extension. This piece also secures the door frame on the outside. Jillena was making more progress on the west wall with insulation and lath.

The top trim piece connecting the two side pieces is now on. Jeff used the jigsaw to create a coped fit at the corners. Bob has started on the wall log notching for the 2nd floor beams.

3-12-11

With the final piece of the trim going on today, the front door project is winding down. Only the threshold extension needs to be added. Jillena is almost finished prepping the inside wall for chinking, which we are planning for next weekend.

3-13-11

Jeff installed a pressure-treated threshold plate over the exposed grain of the threshold log, and installed drip caps over both doors. The front door project is officially done! Just a few finishing touches on the side door and that will be done, too. We put up a few more buck extensions on the windows and Jillena cut and stapled a few more lath strips on the west wall.
