DECK/PORCH
8-26-12

Our friend Matt brought his climbing gear out to screw a pressure-treated cap to the tops of the two balcony support poles.   These are merely temporary to protect the tops of the poles from the weather until we actually build the balcony.

Later, Jeff got back to work on the rebar for the railing by painting a few sticks.   Once dried, Stephen and Jeff got to work installing them. First, Stephen and Jeff drilled some pocket holes in the bottom rail.

Then Jeff filled a pocket with clear silicone and Stephen set the rod in the silicone.   The silicone will keep the pocket from filling with water when it rains, and potentially rotting.

Jeff then wiped off the excess silicone.   Here's what the rear deck and rail looks like so far.
