Our friend Matt brought his climbing gear out to screw a pressure-treated cap to the tops of the two balcony support poles. |

These are merely temporary to protect the tops of the poles from the weather until we actually build the balcony. |
Later, Jeff got back to work on the rebar for the railing by painting a few sticks. |

Once dried, Stephen and Jeff got to work installing them. First, Stephen and Jeff drilled some pocket holes in the bottom rail. |
Then Jeff filled a pocket with clear silicone and Stephen set the rod in the silicone. |

The silicone will keep the pocket from filling with water when it rains, and potentially rotting. |
Jeff then wiped off the excess silicone. |
