EXTERIOR STAINING & CHINKING
9-18-10

Here's a shot of the house taken at the beginning of the day.
This picture shows the contrast between the north and west walls, with the west wall being stained and chinked.

A closeup of one of the butt-pass intersections. We stuffed batting into the corner from the inside, spray-foamed in from the outside, then stapled and extra long piece of lath to wrap around the corner.
An Eastern Tiger Swallowtail fluttered around the work area for a while.

Jillena holds the cover open while Bob cleans out the mixer after making a batch of mortar.
Loading up a pail of supplies for our crew up on the scaffolding.

Tossing a bag of mortar mix onto the cover which has teeth on it to puncture the bag.
Tearing the bag open on a windy day like today is fine if the wind is at your back.

The mix is ready, having the consistency of cookie dough.
Jeff's top chink line from last week is a light gray now that it's cured. Today he's working his way down between the windows.

Pushing the mortar off the hawk and pressing it into the lath.
Jillena was the "finisher" and followed behind the "chinkers" with a sponge to give the chink lines a cleaner look.
