For each board on this final row, Jeff began by ripping the width down to approximately match the amount of space left up to the ridge pole. |
With the ridge pole edge still straight, he drew the rough shape of the pole profile on the surface of the board. |

Then he cut the profile out... |
...trying for a fairly close matchup with the ridge pole, still needing to cut deeper into the board until the correct width is reached. |

After marking the spots along the cut profile that still need to be knocked down, he trims them off and checks the fit again. |
Repeating this process eventually yields a good profile matchup and the correct board width that will allow it to fit snuggly for nailing. |
