All of our windows are double-hung, except for two casements. We began the day by unpacking a few windows and taking the sashes out and laying them out across the floor.
Issac was a big help, and loved climbing in and out of our little window to fetch anything we might need from the 1st floor.

With some scrap cardboard, we covered the glass of one of the casements and began staining the exterior surfaces.
Paul works on unpacking a window. Each window had over 100 staples that had to be removed.

Jeff handled all the staining. This exterior stain contains borates that will deter bugs. It also has a UV inhibitor that will keep the logs from fading.

While Paul unpacked the windows, Allison taped the edges of the glass panes to prep them for staining.

On the frames, we taped off the interior surface of the sill, as well as the jamb liners.
Larry arrived in the afternoon to cut expansion joints in our patio slab. Here he's marking each joint with a chalk line.

Cutting the joints, which will be filled with silicone later.
At the end of the day, we had many windows disassembled, spread out over the floor, and stained. With the cold, damp environment in the basement, it will take over a week for the stain to dry enough that we can reassemble the windows.
