Starting off the morning by squaring the ends of our rough cut sill boards. |
Cutting the last board to length before hauling them up to the cap log. |
All of the sill boards are laid out. |
Now to lag the sill to the cap. We used John's 1/2" impact wrench to drive 5/16" lag bolts into the log. |
We pre-drilled through the sill board to help drive the lag bolts, but the impact gun still had to work hard. |
We also laid out a zigzag pattern for the bolts, which made the sill boards even more secure. |
Paul finishes the last three bolts for this board. |
Once the boards were all bolted down on the west wall, we took the circular saw to the outer edge to trim back the wider boards and get a nice flush edge to mount our pitch brackets against. |
Paul points out a warp in one of the boards which we might have to plane down. |
Trimming another extended outside edge of a sill board. |
Moving on to the east wall. This one required more shimming than carving. |
Jeff tries out his new planer on some knots. |
What a time-saver! |
