A full rainbow in the dark western sky over the house. A nice surprise to welcome us to the worksite this morning. |
|
It wasn't long before the fill trucks started rolling in again today. We're still getting both dirt and road waste from city projects. |
Our progress as it stood before we got started today. Can you tell how many courses we have laid? |
|
Paul and Jillena try something new - strapping four logs at once! |
We thought we'd try it since the next four logs we wanted were in the same area of the same rack. Here Paul crawls under the rack to reach for the lifting strap. |
|
Pulling the strap up and around the bundle and hooking the end with a rebar pin. |
Seconds after we got the four logs in the air, the hook on the chain snapped in half! The log bundle ended up dropping straight down onto the rack. |
|
After repairing the chain, we modified our lifting method a bit and tried all four logs again. So far, so good. That's a very heavy load, but the strap is holding, and the chain above the strap is holding. |
Jeff carries the bundle through the rack area. |
|
Paul walks behind the load to keep it from pivoting to far and hitting the "house" of the excavator. |
Setting the bundle down on the west side of the house where we'll lift the first log for the next course. |

Lowering the cutoff section of a log using the block and tackle. |
