A bit warmer today, but windy as we head out to work.

Matt, wearing his safety harness, preparing to head up the ladder with a ratchet strap.

The problem: the log we partially pinned last weekend (the one on the right with the strap around it) has a large bow in it. The other end of this log is basically centered on top of wall (log on the left), but bows so much that it's offset by almost a full diameter!

While tethered to the lifting pole, Matt works the ratchet strap, pulling the end of the log out enough so we can pin it to the one below. It's amazing how much a log will actually bend when enough force is applied.

With the log held in place with the ratchet strap, Matt immediately begins pinning and working back to where we left off last weekend.

Looking up from the basement.

Matt leans over with the framing square to determine the pin length for Jeff to cut.

From the basement, where we've been cutting pins lately, Jeff ties a few pins onto our "wind chime" rope using a mid-line clove hitch. Matt then pulls the pins up as he needs them. It's an efficient delivery system.

With the pinning finished, Matt gets ready to release the ratchet strap on the end we pulled out.

By making quick work of the pinning, we had plenty of time to raise the second log for course #18. Here, Matt lowers a pulley block down to Jeff for securing to the log below.

With the pass end partially raised, Matt cleans the rest of the knots off.

The pass end is being lifted by the White 4WD tractor. Jeff drives slowly backward to lift this end up toward the 2nd floor girder log.

With a tag line on the pass end, Matt pulls the log out and around the 2nd floor girder log.

Now that the pass end is up over the 2nd floor girder, the butt end needs to be lifted so the log swings toward the right.

Getting ready to pick up the butt end.

The log has now swung toward the right, with the pass end resting on the 2nd floor girder. We've also repositioned the pulley blocks down the log so that the next lift will swing it further.

Lifting the butt end was fairly easy and with sunset approaching, we decided to just strap the log in place and work on pinning it tomorrow. Here, Matt has strapped the pass end to the lifting pole.

We got so caught up in getting this log up on the wall that we forgot to cut the flare off the butt end while it was still on the ground! So, until tomorrow, we just left the butt end propped up on the adjacent pass log.
