For the sills, Jeff first cut a 1-1/4" piece to exact length for the window he was working on. |

Next he ran it through the planer for a smooth top surface. |
Then, he drilled five countersunk holes for the screws. |

The ends are also square-notched to fit around the side bucks. This bottom sill board is set so that it sticks out about an inch beyond the cut log that is set furthest in. The goal is to cover all the log ends with the side extension boards, with the front edge being 1/2" beyond that furthest log, and still have the sill 1/2" beyond the side extensions. It will be easier to picture when a window is completed. |
Once the bottom sill board was screwed down, Jeff set five riser blocks behind it to help support the thinner top board, then filled the gap with insulation. |

He then cut set the 3/4" slab on top and finish-nailed it to the risers and bottom sill board. |
