We did away with the plumb bobs, as any breeze rendered them pretty much useless. Instead, we just measured our desired width at the top of the opening, used the level to keep the guides as straight as possible, and measured across again at the bottom of the opening.
We rolled the short scaffold tower over to this window so Jeff could work on the header log easier.

The rough opening is finished.
After some fine trimming on the sides again, we were ready to bolt the casing boards in place.

All the while we were working on this window, the snow was blowing through the house at about 15mph and quickly began accumulating on our new window.
