Where we began today. Most of the joists are in place from the east wall toward the center of the house.
Though the joists are set at 16" on center, some are warped and will need straightening at about the midpoint. This will be done with a special tool we made up last year.

A curious deer along the back woodline.
A few more joists set up across the girders.

We're ready to begin nailing these in place.
Our special tool for plumbing the joists. It fits snuggly over the joist and by pulling the 2x4 handle, we can keep it plumb while tacking it into place.

With the joist held in position with the 2x4 tool, Jeff checks for plumb. The bubble indicates it's right on. The 2x4 that Jeff is sitting on is a temporary brace that we use to screw down on top of the joists to hold them in place.

Jeff checks the top side of a joist with a 4ft. level.

Because some joists have a slight cup shape to them, they sometimes need to get clamped to the adjacent joist while we nail them together.

Jillena goes to work on the table saw, ripping scrap stock into cross bracing to go in between the joists.

The cross bracing gets screwed into the joists at about mid-span.

The east half of the floor joists is almost complete.

Bob screwing down a long 2x4 across the tops of the joists to hold them plumb.

This joist is a bit too high, so before setting it, Jeff needs to notch out part of the top of the girder.

Jillena doing a little nailing.

Here's one of the 2x4 kicker boards that's been screwed down since last Fall. These all need to come up so we can take up the rest of the OSB panels and finish the west half of the floor.

Removing one of the kicker boards.

The boxout that Bob built around one of our GSLs.
