As the lifting distance gets higher and higher, we're having to pull and a shallower angle to the upper pulley blocks, and the tractors have to move further and further back.
Using a 650lb.-rated single pulley chained to the lowest pass log below the lifting pole rigging, we passed the lead line through this pulley which gave us a more horizontal pulling angle. Most of the stress on the pass log is transferred through the adjacent butt log which is securely pinned in place.
     
 
Ted was back at his favorite job driving rebar.

After Jeff knocked off all the nasty knots on all four 3rd-course logs, he and John raised the first one, then called it a day.
