Two runner logs were peeled and Rack #1 went up last night. |
Moving the pile of logs to the rack sometimes required a little balancing assistance. |
John and Paul setting a log on the rack. |
Rack #1 is almost full. |
Picking up the last few logs before our second load arrives. |
WHAT HAPPENED?!! Jeff's mom, Ginny, inspecting collapsed Rack #1. Some of the stumps had tipped from weight shift and brought the whole rack down. More work to be done! ...sigh... |
An hour before today's load arrived, our smaller forklift broke. Fortunately, we still had the tractor and were able to borrow another forklift from a local farmer. |
For this load, Jeff was on the truck with Steve. |
A view of Rack #1 (collapsed) and Rack #2 which went up just before the truck arrived. |
John pulls up with the tractor and steve attaches the chain sling to the log. |
John pulls the log off the truck and Paul lifts the other end with another sling on the forklift. |
The log can then be easily carried to the rack. |
John maneuvers his end around the end of the rack. |
Paul sets his end down on the runner. |
Steve taking a quick nap? |
Wake up and hook up that sling! |
The logs averaged 50 feet in length - longer than the truck bed! |
Looking under Rack #2 and the "hairy" appearance of the loose bark strips which peeled off during skidding and unloading. |
Looking across the top of Rack #2. You can see the bare spots where the bark has been torn off already. |
Four logs left... |
